About Course

Duration: 6 Months  •  Age: 10+  •  Fee: ₹7,999

Intermediate is where Varmakalai stops being something you perform and starts being something you do to a moving, resisting person. That shift is harder than most students expect, and it is the reason this course runs six months rather than three.

Entry requirement

Completion of Basic Varma Training, or an assessment by your Asan if you trained elsewhere. This is not a formality. Partner work with a student whose stances are still unstable is how people get hurt.

What you will learn

  • Advanced adavu — longer, more demanding movement sequences that combine what were separate techniques at basic level.
  • Defensive and counter techniques — not just blocking, but answering. Reading where an attack is going and being there first.
  • Partner training — the core of this course. Controlled work against a live opponent who is genuinely trying.
  • Timing and distance control — the two things that separate a trained practitioner from a strong one. Most of your six months is spent here.
  • Introduction to varmam theory — the location and significance of vital points, taught as knowledge and safety awareness. Application comes later, under close supervision, when your control is proven.
  • Recovery and self-care — how traditional practitioners manage the strain of training.

What is expected of you

Regular attendance matters more here than at basic level, because partner drills depend on training with the same people over time. Expect to be corrected often and to be slower than you were at basic level for the first few weeks — that is what learning under pressure feels like.

Students who complete Intermediate become eligible for Advanced Varmakalai Training, which is offered by direct arrangement with the academy rather than open enrolment.
